[This is the moment that things come together for Kim. He's already decided that the stranger he's talking to is likely to be the "historical" sort of Englishman. Pair that with the mention of hands needing to be out in front of him, of magic tricks....

Well. It's always possible it's not who he thinks it is. But he's much more sure. And if this ever came to light, with that added detail, it would be impossible for him to argue that he'd thought these messages were for him.
