I can't say I understand why you feel that way. But I suppose I can accept it. Though I'll warn you that if that respect extends to you feeling as if you must use my title, I'm afraid we won't get on very well anymore.
I feel this way because I understand the value of your station, and I won't be caught out not keeping that well in mind, but I won't go as far as to offend you in trying to show you due respect neither. So I'll not call you by any title if that's what you want. Would Sir still give offense?
That's the difference between us, then. I don't believe my station has any inherent value. I suppose that depends. Do you call many men of your acquaintance "Sir", or only ones of what you consider a higher station?
